As part of my thriller research I decided to watch the Bourne Identity to have a look at the speed of the editing during the action.
During the fight and action scenes, each shot can last as little as half a second, shots rarely exceed two seconds. This makes the scene appear very fast, and it's actually hard to follow what is happening. However what this does create is suspense and it makes the fight seem more real and much more violent than it actually might be.
Whether or not I will use this technique I have yet to decide.
